OneVU Yubikey Onboarding

This article provides an overview and setup instructions for using YubiKeys as a secure authentication method with OneVU. It includes steps for registering your YubiKey and using it as part of your multi-factor authentication (MFA) process.

YubiKeys offer a strong, phishing-resistant form of authentication that enhances account security when used with Okta. By requiring physical possession of the key to log in, YubiKeys help prevent unauthorized access—even if passwords are compromised—making them ideal for protecting sensitive university systems and data.

1. Navigate to https://onevu.vanderbilt.edu in your browser.   
2. Login using your @vanderbilt.edu email and click Next. Then enter your password and click verify. Note: This password is the same one you use with your VUnetID.  
3. One you enter your password, you will see the prompts below, and you will want to select, “Security Key or Biometric Authenticator.  
4. Then click "set up" again.  
5. Depending on your device, you may be asked to use a pin or passkey, but you will want to select the option that says external security key.  
6. Select “ok”.  
7. Then you can click ok, and if security key isnt listed at first, select "use another device".  
8. Select “Security key” and click Next.  
9. Select “ok”.  
10. Select “ok”, again.  
11. Now your device will prompt you to insert your yubikey.   
12. Insert the yubikey into your device.   
13. Once your device detets the yubikey it will ask you to touch the key with your thumbprint.   
14. Once the process for the yubikey is comple you will see the below message that the passkey has been saved and you can click “ok”.  
15. Click “Continue”.  
16. Now enter a secondary personal email address as a recovery option for your account. Please note that this process wont be complete until you go to your personal email inbox and confirm via the link in the email that is sent.  Then you can click, “Finish”.  
17. You are now in your OneVU dashboard and your account onboarding is complete.
