Description

A computer name is a unique identifier assigned to your device, which allows it to be recognized on a network. Whether you are using Windows or macOS, knowing how to find your computer's name can assist with IT support or when connecting to other devices.   

Resolution or Procedure Steps

For Windows:

  1. Open System Settings:

    • Click the Start button and select Settings.

  2. Navigate to System Information:

    • Go to System > About.

  3. Locate the Computer Name:

    • In the Device specifications section, find the field labeled Device name. This is your computer's name.

For macOS:

  1. Open System Preferences:

    • Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the screen and select System Settings.

  2. Navigate to Sharing:

    • In the System Preferences window, click Sharing.

  3. Find the Computer Name:

    • The computer name will be displayed at the top of the Sharing settings window.
