OneVU: How do I set up and manage my phone number as a recovery method

Purpose

This article provides instructions for adding, updating, and removing your phone number as a recovery method in OneVU. Recovery methods are used for identity verification during login or when resetting your password.

It covers how to add a new phone number, log in if you no longer have your old phone, and remove an outdated phone number. Maintaining an up-to-date recovery method ensures you can verify your identity and regain account access if needed.

Resolution or Procedure Steps

Add a New Phone Number

  1. Navigate to OneVU Account Settings. [https://onevu.vanderbilt.edu/account-settings/home]
  2. Log in with your VUnetID and password.
  3. Under Security methods, select Manage security methods.
  4. Under Phone, click Set up another.
  5. Follow the prompts to add and verify your new phone number.

Access OneVU if You No Longer Have Your Old Phone

  1. Navigate to OneVU Account Settings. [ https://onevu.vanderbilt.edu/account-settings/home]
  2. Log in.
  3. Enter either your Email or VUnetID.
  4. On the login screen, click Verify with something else.
  5. Select Phone to receive a verification code.
  6. Enter the code and click Verify.

Remove your Old Phone Number

Important: Set up your new phone before removing your old one to avoid login issues.

  1. Navigate to OneVU Account Settings. [https://onevu.vanderbilt.edu/account-settings/home]
  2. Log in.
  3. Under Security methods, select Manage security methods.
  4. Under Phone, select the number you wish to remove.
  5. Click Remove next to the old device.
  6. Select Password, enter your password, and click Verify.
  7. Your old phone number will now be removed.

  

Additional Information

  • Always maintain at least one active recovery method (phone or email) to avoid being locked out of your account.
