Vanderbilt uses OneVU to manage student access to university applications such as YES, Brightspace, and email. By enabling Okta Verify, students add an extra layer of protection to their accounts, helping to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the security of personal and academic information.

Description

This article provides step-by-step instructions for students on how to access Vanderbilt University systems using OneVU, including how to set up Okta Verify for secure multi-factor authentication.

Resolution or Procedure Steps

  1. Navigate to https://onevu.vanderbilt.edu in your browser.   
  2. Login using your @vanderbilt.edu email and click Next. Enter your password & click verify.   
  3. Note: This password is the same one you use with your VUnetID.  
  4. Then you will see the option to select “set up” next to DUO. This links your current DUO account with OneVU.   
  5. Note: please do not delete the DUO app until further notice.  
  6. Then select “Enroll” and your mobile device will be sent a DUO prompt, approve and move on to the next step.  
  7. Your registration to OneVU is now complete. However, VUIT highly reccommends going ahead and setting up Okta Verify, as this will be required for all users in the future.   
  8. To begin setting up Okta Verify, select “set up”.  
  9. A screen with a QR code will appear (seen below). Leave this window open, but we will switch to your mobile device for next steps.   
  10. On your mobile device, go to either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and search for “Okta Verify” and select download. The application icon is displayed below.   
  11. Once downloaded, you will open the application, and select "Get Started”.  
  12. Then select “Next”  
  13. Then select “Add Account”  
  14. Then select “Organization”  
  15. Then select “Skip”  
  16. Then select “Yes Ready to Scan” - your mobile device will likely require you to allow the application to use your camera.   
  17. Scan the QR Code on your other device.   
  18. We highly reccommend allowing the application to send you push notifications so that when Okta Verify sends you a push, it came come through on your phone without having to navigate to the app.   
  19. Now go back to your computer screen and click "continue". Then Enter your personal non-Vanderbilt email address. This email will be used in the event that you have lost access to your account and your and then you can choose "Finish".   
  20. Now you are in your OneVU dashboard. Note: To complete the secondary email address registration, you will want to navigate to your personal email account, find the email that was sent to you from One VU and select "confirm the email”.
