Secure Research Cloud

What is SRC?

SRC is a secure research environment in Vanderbilt’s enterprise Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud that is preconfigured with security and is ready to use. Controls in place are modeled after NIST 800-171.

What is cloud computing?

Cloud computing is the subscription-based delivery of on-demand hosted computing services over the internet. Cloud services allow users to be more agile and flexible by scaling services up or down in a stable and high-performance execution environment.

Vanderbilt University Information Technology (VUIT) leverages AWS for its SRC services. Direct connections into AWS allow us to extend our on-campus network to create secure and private workspaces inside of AWS.

How do I get the service?

SRC is accessed through Vanderbilt's VPN client by logging in with a VUnetID. There are built-in securities such as a private, encrypted connection, access control with MFA and least privilege, incident detection and response, and full logging and auditability.

SRC is able to store and process the following data types:

How do I get the service?

Depending on your role with VU, there are 2 different access options:

Gartner Campus Access is for all VU Students, Faculty and Staff. Gartner research can enrich the learning experience allowing students and faculty the opportunity to tap into real-life examples of how technology is used, industry tech advances, and trends. Log into Gartner Campus Access with your Vanderbilt VUnetID and password and experience a faster and smarter way to research!
Gartner for Technical Professionals is expressly designed for and provided to IT technical professionals at VU. Gartner for Technical Professionals' unlimited access to research and unmetered analyst inquiries provides the insights, guidance, and tools to support IT technical teams at VU, execution on IT strategy initiatives by providing scalable and secure solutions, leverage architecture templates, Initiative Guidance Frameworks, and in-depth product evaluations. If you are an IT Professional at VU and would like access, please place a Professional Development Service Request.
