Service Description

Use the IP Address Request form when a device needs an IP address that does not change, such as a server, printer, camera, or other network-connected device.

Before you begin, gather the following information:

  • A short name and description for your request
  • The device name (hostname)
  • The building and room where the device is located
  • The type of device, such as a Windows computer, printer, camera, or server
  • The device's MAC address, if available (for example, 00:11:22:33:44:55)
  • The network or VLAN the device should use, if you know it

Note: Public IP addresses cannot be requested with this form. Follow the link shown on the request form to submit a Cyber Security policy exception request for a public IP address.

How do I get the service?

1. Open the IP Address Requests page

  1. Sign in to Nautobot
  2. Expand NetConfig from the Navigation Menu.
  3. Under Tickets, select IP Address Requests.
  4. Select Submit New Ticket.

2. Create the ticket

  1. Enter a short Title that explains what the request is for.
  2. Use Description to provide any helpful background.
  3. Choose the appropriate Priority.
  4. Check the notification email address. You may leave the field blank to use the email address shown in your profile.
  5. Select Create Ticket. Your ticket is now saved as a draft and has not been submitted yet.

3. Add a device to the request

  1. Stay on the Single Item tab.
  2. For Request Type, choose Fixed Address (Assigned by DHCP Server) if the device receives its network settings automatically. Choose Reservation (Assigned by Manual Entry) if the IP address will be entered directly on the device.
  3. Enter the device's Hostname.
  4. Select the Building and enter the Room.
  5. Enter the MAC Address, if available.
  6. Select the Device Type. If you choose Other, enter a brief description of the device.
  7. Add any helpful details in Comments.

4. Choose the network

  • If you know the network: Open Network Selection Helper, then choose the correct VLAN from Select by VLAN.
  • If you know the IP address of a similar device: Open Network Selection Helper, enter that address under Search by IP Address, select Search, and then select the matching network.
  • If you do not know the network: Open Network Selection Helper and check I'm unsure which network to use. The network team will help choose it. This may take additional time.

For a device in a data center: Check This IP Address will be located in a Data Center and complete the questions that appear. You do not need to select a network. Data center requests are for devices in Hill Center or Bryan Building. If the device also has a separate hardware-management connection, such as iDRAC, iLO, or IPMI, add that connection as another item.

5. Add and review the item

  1. Select Add Item.
  2. Confirm that the device appears under Current Items.
  3. To request addresses for more devices, repeat steps 3 through 5. Add one item for each IP address needed.

6. Submit the request

  1. Review all items, especially each hostname, building, room, and MAC address.
  2. Select Submit Ticket.
  3. Watch for a confirmation email. You will receive another email when the request is complete or if more information is needed.

You can check progress at any time by returning to IP Address Requests and selecting your ticket.
