Application crashes can disrupt workflow and productivity. Understanding common causes and basic troubleshooting steps can help resolve these issues efficiently.
Restart the Application Close the application completely and reopen it. This can often resolve temporary glitches.
Restart the Computer Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can resolve underlying issues that may be causing application crashes. This clears the memory and closes background processes that might be interfering with application performance. For Windows, be sure to Restart rather than Shut-Down when rebooting for troubleshooting purposes. See: Restart vs. Shut-Down vs. Sleep for Windows
Check for Updates Ensure that your application and operating system are updated to the latest versions. Updates can fix bugs that may cause crashes. See: How to Update Computer Operating Systems (OS): Windows and MacOS
Clear Cache and Temporary Files Clearing the application’s cache can resolve performance issues. Refer to your application's documentation for specific steps. See: How to Clear Cache and Cookies
Run in Safe Mode (Windows only) Boot your computer in Safe Mode to see if the application works without additional programs running.
Reinstall the Application Uninstalling and then reinstalling the application can resolve issues related to corrupted files.
Check System Requirements Verify that your device meets the minimum system requirements for the application.
Consult Event Viewer (Windows only) For Windows users, check the Event Viewer for error messages related to the application crash.
For help with any of the steps above, place a Desktop Support Service Request.
Conflicting Software: Sometimes, other installed applications can conflict with the application you're trying to use.
Resource Limitations: Ensure that your device has enough RAM and processing power available to run the application.
If these steps do not resolve the issue, or if you encounter problems requiring advanced troubleshooting for a VU issued device, don't hesitate place a Desktop Support Service Request for further assistance.
