Forgot Password (Recovery)

Purpose

This article details the process for self-service password recovery. If you forget your password or need to reset it for any reason, OneVU provides a quick and secure self-service option. Follow the steps below to reclaim a forgotten password without contacting IT support.

    • Faculty and Staff 

    • Undergraduate Students 

    • Graduate and Professional Students 

Prerequisites

  • You must have an active OneVU account. 

  • You must have set up at least one recovery option (e.g., email, SMS, or security question). 

Description

This article explains how to reclaim your forgotten password.   

Resolution or Procedure Steps

  1. From a browser, go to  https://onevu.vanderbilt.edu Sign-In Page 

  2. Log in using your @vanderbilt.edu email or VUnetID and click next.   

  3. When asked for your password, click “Forgot password.” 

  4. Click “Send me an email”. 

  5. Wait for the OneVU email with a numeric verification key or a link to reset the password to arrive in your inbox. 

  6. Once you have the email with your numeric verification code, you can select “Enter a verification code instead” on your screen. 

  7. Enter the code and click “Verify”. 

  8. Using the password requirements, type in your desired new password and select “Reset Password” to confirm changes. 

Password Requirements

Your new password must meet the following criteria: 

  • At least 8 characters long (may vary depending on your organization’s policy) 

  • Includes a mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters 

  • It cannot be the same as your previous 10 passwords.
