Purpose
The purpose of this article is to provide instructions on connecting to, and using, the Eduroam wireless network.
Target Audience
Prerequisites
Description
Eduroam offers a free, secure wireless network accessible at numerous universities, schools, and research institutions worldwide. Vanderbilt users are automatically set up to use Eduroam and can connect to the internet from any participating institution.
The WiFi onboarding process for personal and VU-issued devices allows connection to either vuNet or Eduroam. While your device will typically connect to vuNet first, both networks are suitable for use.
Resolution or Procedure Steps
Vanderbilt users are provisioned to use Eduroam during the on-boarding process to use the vuNet wireless network (on-boarding instructions can be found in the "Connecting to vuNet" knowledge article). Vanderbilt users that are connected to the vuNet wireless network on their personal devices, should automatically connect to Eduroam when the network is within range.
Common Issues/Troubleshooting
-
No available networks for on-boarding.
-
Can't connect due to a certificate issue.
-
Error during vuNet certificate request.
-
Mobile devices running Android 11 or other mobile operating system issues.
-
Apple/MacOS connection issues.
Should there be difficulty connecting to vuNet, try the following troubleshooting steps:
-
Disable WiFi on your device, and re-enable it.
-
Restart your device and try connecting again.
-
Try to re-onboard by going to wifi.vanderbilt.edu and clicking “I HAVE A VUNETID.”
-
Try to log in using VUnetID@vanderbilt.edu.
If the above steps have failed, contact the Tech Hub for assistance at (615) 343-9999.
VU users having trouble connecting to Eduroam at other institutions should contact the VUIT Tech Hub for advanced troubleshooting.
